summary of post
-
I think the administration should make an immediate point to newcomers that they can just click on the CODE tab and click the More button to get a summary only of their posts. It took me forever to find that and it was teh first thing I really needed. I had all these long posts strung down a super long page. This is too important to be left hidden in some tutorial or something for people to have to search out. In fact, I almost switched to another blog host till I finaaly stumbled up the answer.
otherwise, Great Job you guys! :)

Well, raincoaster, thanks for your two cents worth.
I only meant that it’s a pretty essential element and that someone shouldn’t have to click around too much to figure it out. WordPress is pretty cool, why not make it better for those who aren’t internet geeks and who think CSS is a weekly television show about forensics. -
I went all through the FAQs, knowing what I was looking for, and couldn’t find it. I do credit WP with having the least usable FAQs I’ve ever come across. Never have a clicked so much to find so little.
I’d say you idea is a damn good one.

i will admit that looking for the “More” tag in the FAQ is a major problem. I have had to do more than one search to find it, and i’ve been around for a while.
That said, however, i’m not sure it’s an issue of such vital importance to all bloggers. I never use it, and i’m pretty sure a lot of other people have never considered it.
You can submit a request that the FAQ be changed by using the Support button that is normally available on your Dashboard Monday-Friday; that’s probably the best way to make sure staff sees it.

I wasn’t just making things up: when you search for “split post” you get the instructions right away:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/search.php?q=split+postIf you’re searching for something that makes an actual summary of your post, you won’t find it because it’s not there.
God knows, the FAQ is organized by dyslexic anarchists, but the forum search box won’t generally let you down.

in case someone comes along looking for the FAQ entry, here are the pertinent ones:
http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/09/09/how-do-i-only-show-part-of-a-post/
http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/15/what-do-all-the-icons-mean/The first one is only listed under the tag “read more”; it could probably stand a few more tags to be added.

Keep in mind that whatever you post after the more tag won’t get picked up on the RSS feeds.
