Summary option in Settings does not work

  I’ve been trying to get this to work for a few weeks on a number of different posts, but it just doesn’t. Any ideas?

  If you are talking about the summary setting under settings > reading, that only controls whether your RSS feed displays a summary or the full post. It does not control display of posts on your blog.

  The easiest way to show only part of a post on the main page of your blog is to use the more tag: http://support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/ .
