  I was wondering if I could install a pop up window on my blog (free word press version) or if I would have to upgrade to a paid version? Thanks, Michaela

  It’s not possible to install plugins on any WordPress.com account (paid or free).

  There is an option to add a MailChimp Subscribe pop-up option. You can read about that at https://en.support.wordpress.com/mailchimp/
