Sunspot theme restoration
-
The WordPress posts widget from my self-hosted site simplylifetips.com wasn’t displaying properly on lordofsick.wordpress.com. Following AI chatbot advice, I temporarily switched the theme to test the issue, but it didn’t fix the problem. After changing the theme, I can’t find the Sunspot theme anywhere in My Themes or in the directory to switch back. I also tried activating a new theme, but the Appearance → Widgets and Menu options are missing. How can I restore the Sunspot theme on my site?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there @pvmkwp it appears that the Classic theme, Sunspot, was retired a long time ago and it isn’t possible to activate it again. I’m sorry for no better news.
To embed posts from another WordPress blog, you can use the Embed block https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/embed-block/
Post back here if you need further help with this.

Another option is to use the RSS feed of that other site in the RSS block

Not url embed— Display WordPress Posts widget. This shows live recent posts from another Jetpack-connected WordPress site. The Jetpack widget automatically pulls and updates the latest posts from the external site.

Not RSS. Display WordPress Posts. This shows live recent posts from another Jetpack-connected WordPress site. The Jetpack widget automatically pulls and updates the latest posts from the external site. I could not find the Appearance Widget in the new themes.
Astra free theme is available in WordPress.org, but on WordPress.com it is paid (Pro). Look like wordpress.com is not showing free themes much.

As you’ve changed to a block theme (Retrospect) on your site, it’s possible that the theme does not have a widget area to use the legacy Display WordPress Posts widget. Therefore my two suggestions above to use either the embed block or the rss block.
You can try switching to a current Classic theme, but unfortunately you’d need to know the name of the theme in order to find and activate it in the theme showcase.

Many themes, like Astra free (I am using it on simplylifetips.com) with widgets, are on wordpress.org. But WordPress.com is selling these themes. Astra Pro is a paid theme for which Brainstorm is collecting money. A very few free themes are available on WordPress.com. I have been maintaining this blog for many years. The AI chatbot’s advice damaged my site.
Sunspot theme is not updated for 2 years, but still available in wordpress.org https://wordpress.org/themes/sunspot/
