Sunspot wrangling problems

I’m sure it’s all due to my ineptitude, but there are a few things that I cannot get figured out in Sunspot.

    1. I would like the site to appear similar to the way Sunspot looks on it’s theme page: http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/sunspot/ I set Appearances —> Sunspot Theme Options to “Two Columns” instead of one, but pages aren’t turning out that way. Does this mean that only blog posts will assume the grid appearance, but not static pages?

1b. If that’s the case, do any of the other grid themes allow for a grid layout on static pages?

    2. These are entries on the currently set blog, but I can’t get the photos to appear along with the text. What corrections do I need to make? http://baskcabinetry.com/welcome/wood-wisdom-2/

    3. If I remove “tags” and “categories” in order to save real estate, will the search function still work or is it dependent upon them?

    4. I know that you folks suggest opening an experimental blog to make all our experiments on. However, does that mean that I’d have to purchase another bundled package in order to get CSS jiggling capability on the play site or can the experimental site be attached somehow to the bundle I already have?

[PS: These are only random photos from the far corners of my computer and quotes that I’ve uploaded, not intended as finished products. When finished, it will look much nicer. Trust me. ;^) ]

    Thank you for your help.

RESOLVED: 2. These are entries on the currently set blog, but I can’t get the photos to appear. . .

I finally noticed from the Sunspot theme page that all the posts with photos had a “Featured image” tag. DOH!

Help with the other questions is still appreciated. Onward and upward?

Semi-resolved: 1 & 1b. Apparently that’s so. Looking at Gridspace from the sites of others, it appears to do what I have in mind, but the live preview won’t work for me. (I have a separate thread about this, but so far, no responses.)

Resolved: 3. Although it doesn’t answer my question under Category, Tags, or Search support, now that I have some more content posted, search seems able to detect terms with having Categories or Tags activated.

Gave up: 4. Since I haven’t heard about how to utilize an experimental practice site without purchasing another upgrade bundle, I’m just experimenting on the live website. It must be confusing for anyone who might look at it, but I haven’t told anyone about the website yet, so I’m sure nobody’s looking. B^)

As for 1&1b, the grid layout applies to the main posts page. The posts page is a dynamic page that displays a number of posts. There’s no equivalent for static pages, because each static page is independent: it doesn’t rely on a chronological order like posts do. If you’d like to have a grid for static pages, you need to create it yourself in another static page: add headings, texts and images, turn them to links to your static pages, and use HTML and CSS to turn the whole thing into a grid.

Thank you, justpi. It sounds easy when you say it, though! .^_^.

Is this a CSS forum inquiry topic? Trying to understand all this for me is like trying to swim while relying on floaties that just barely keep my nose above the water. >_<
