Super difficult to use.

I don’t understand why this is so difficult to use. I can’t even get it to do the simplest things. I’m using a template that seems to make it more difficult. It is always wanting to publish before I’m complete. I have all intentions of going to the paid program but I can’t even follow the guide for the template I’m using and get it to look anywhere near what the template was showing. I don’t have time to be screwing around with the site all day. Are certain functions locked on the free version that make it easier to use after they are unlocked with the paid version?

  • Hi James –

    Thanks for getting in touch.

It sounds like you’re being prompted to publish the edits and changes you’re making on the site. Is that right? Does this happen as a pop up message?

There’s no harm in publishing something that will later get revised. You can also hide this site from the internet until it’s ready. Then you don’t have to worry about what folks see while it’s in progress. Here are the instructions to adjust that setting:

Generally speaking, our themes with more customization options are more difficult to set up and utilize compared to the more basic options. Every theme has set up instructions and a demo site. These are also mobile friendly out of the box, and there won’t be any additional customization needed on your end.

Here are the set up details for Textbook: https://wordpress.com/theme/textbook/

Please write back with more questions! We stick close by and are happy to help. Once you’re in a place to look at the hosting plan options we can work through those differences with you as well. The details are on https://wordpress.com/pricing/ It’s helpful for us to know what kind of functionality you need form the site, and what goals you have for the project — then we can help you match the right plan to the project and budget.
