Superhero Theme – Putting a "Blog" Item in the Menu
-
Hi All!
I’m using the Superhero theme and would like to put a “Blog” item on the menu bar. It’s there right now – with blog categories inside it but right now “blog” is a page (which is obviously doesn’t work).
I can’t change the “Front Page Display” in Reading Settings because to make the slider header on the homepage it has to be set to “Your Latest Posts”.
Can this be done or do i have to change everything?
Thanks so much
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What do you mean by a “blog item?” Do you mean you want to link to a specific post on your navigation bar? Or do you want to link to a category of posts such as team building, company branding, and recruiting?
-
Not the category, but i guess it would be a “blog roll”? i.e. a list of the posts with the most recent one one on top (ideally post title and summary).
Not sure what the right terminology is.

Your home page is the front page or landing page. That is where all of your blog posts are. They are displayed in reverse chronological order. As far as I can see you have published only one post. That is what you see on the home page http://jigsawhr.co/ . When you publish more posts, the newest one will be the one your readers will see first. Older posts will be visible when readers scroll down.
Can you explain what your goal is? You can have an index of your posts with just the titles. Or you can truncate your posts so only the first few lines show when readers land on your home page. Or do you want a static front / home / landing page to explain what your site is about then readers would use a link to your blog to see the articles you have written?

To help with the techie sort of jargon, here is a lexicon (dictionary) of terms used on WordPress.com and other online platforms.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/lexicon/“blog roll” is not in that lexicon, but you could find what it is by clicking on “Support” and searching for the term:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/blogroll/The term “blogroll” was originally used because it was a list of links to other blogs, but you can include links to any sites.
You can use that search function to find information in the Support documents on many terms.
Have you had a chance to work through the Learn WordPress tutorial to orient yourself to how to use this platform?
http://learn.wordpress.com/There is a lot to learn, so please feel welcome to ask more questions or give some more specifics about what you want to do.

Thanks for the all the resources – I’ll definitely go through all that. I’ve worked in wordpress quite a bit but never on the initial setting up of a blog/website in this detail.
Specifically I want the “blog” item in the menu on top to open an index of posts. Yes I only have 1 post now, but will be adding more shortly.

Your blog is already there: the home page will show all of your posts in reverse chronological order.
You can add a link called “blog” with a custom menu.
https://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/
(please read this whole article because it clarifies lots of things you might find confusing and surprising!)a. Home link
Clicking View All in the Pages module will reveal a ready-to-use Home item on top of all the other pages; you select it and click Add to Menu, just as you would do with a regular page.
Note: if you’re using the default blog front (latest posts), the item will actually be labelled “Home”; if you’ve set the blog front to display a static page instead, the label of the item will be the title of that page. In both cases you can rename the item – see “e” below.Note that the “home” or “blog” page won’t show sub-menu items such as “team building, company branding, and recruiting.” To do that you’ll have to assign posts about each topic to a category then add category links to those topics.
Here is the official WordPress.com article about custom menus:

If you simply want an index of posts, then you can have a page (in navigation, most clearly called “index”) with archives shortcode:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/archives-shortcode/Some themes, and I’m not sure yours is one, have a page template to display an archive of all your posts. You’ll be able to tell if when you are editing or writing a page you’ll have an option to choose various templates. From this link: https://wordpress.com/themes/superhero/ it appears that the only template option you have is :
Full-Width Page Template
If you would like to remove the sidebar from a page, assign it the Full Width template under Page Attributes.

I used the archive shortcode and it did work but I felt limited because of the bulletpoint list it created.
Would love to see the shortcode have more options such as title-only, title with summary, etc.
So after going through everything you gave (thanks so much for that) i solved the problem by creating a “blog” category and adding ALL posts to that category along with any other that it belongs too. Now when people click blog, they see the post title and summary.
I then nested all the other categories within the blog category on the menu.
thanks again!
