Support articles translation

Is it possible to translate support articles, e.g. “Posting Source Code”? Is English the only language for support site?
-
-
(@nandobase: I think @officemacro was referring to http://support.wordpress.com )
Yes, it is possible. In fact, we have started a pilot project for German, at http://de.support.wordpress.com and are looking to open it up for other languages. The only languages we’ll accept for now, are those that we can verifiy internally (i.e. those spoken by someone at Automattic). Which language did you have in mind?
-
-
Owh, my mistake. :)
Perhaps we can use http://translate.google.com/. Just type the url of the support articles in the big box. -
-
@nandobase: Your idea is not bad. Threads in international forums make a basic but useful support base after all.

I’d like to translate some articles from http://support.wordpress.com to Russian.

It seems to be no one Russian speaking person at Automattic. What a pity!
Does it make sense to dream of ru.support.wordpress.com?
-
It makes perfect sense (and since @airodyssey is around, #winkwinknudgenudge for French and Spanish :) ). Stay tuned.

You can translate the whole content in http://support.wordpress.com into Russian using http://translate.google.com/.
Why don’t you give it a try… :) -

I don’t need machine translation. I’d like to give users help stuff written with perfect human language.

@officemacro: it’s great to see another community member interested in and contributing to the Russian WordPress body of knowledge!
If you are interested in furthering the Russian version of wordpress.com, there are still 3000+ untranslated here: http://translate.wordpress.com/projects/wpcom/ru/default – and if you are inclined to contribute, that would be awesome. You can enter new translations/suggestions directly in GlotPress project, and as a validator I review/approve them several times a week.
If you are interested in translating support articles specifically, and are involved with wordpress.org as well, there is plenty of work to be done on the Russian Codex: http://codex.wordpress.org/User:SergeyBiryukov#Partially_Translated
And some other good resources for Russian localization (in case you haven’t come across them yet): http://codex.wordpress.org/Вниманию_переводчиков (note the terminology section, for consistency) and http://ru.forums.wordpress.org/forum/translations, or just feel free to get in touch with anyone on the Russian loc team :)
P.S. I do agree that it makes sense to have ru.support.wordpress.com – there is already a forum at http://ru.forums.wordpress.org/forum/wordpresscom, and for consistency, it would make more sense for it to live here under wordpress.com

Is there a way to have an http://it.support.wordpress.com ?
I know there are some italian speaking people at Automattic!
On Italian forum there are some translations of the support pages for the most FAQ in forum (how to use widget, how to add galleries, shortcodes…).We created a “How to” section in the forum.
May be this can be a starting point for the Italian Support Page… -
@jenga, thanks for the precious input. Just a few notes:
- There is no ru.forums.wordpress.com, but we can easily create one. Question: who will be the initial moderator (my Russian ranges from weak to non-existant…)
- If both @officemacro and you are interested in starting ru.support.wordpress.com, I will email the both of you to arrange getting it started
@jenga, ok for it, but it’d be really great if you could recruit some help. Be it as it may, I’ll email you.
-
@jenia: thanks for detailed message.
- I know about GlotPress project, it’s a good tool for translating separate terms
- >WordPress Codex seems to be slightly different set of documentation than WordPress.com support site
-
@vanillalounge:just to be clear: I don’t speak russian… I think your first point refers to jenia.
I’ll call to work the italian moderators and also some active people on the italian forum.
I’m looking forward to hearing from you :-)

First of all it’s good to learn about specific requirements for WordPress.com forums moderator…

Of course I’m interested in Russian support site and waiting for news.
-
@vanillalounge: so you have two volunteers for Russian forums and support site already :) I will also give a heads-up to the Russian wp.org team since there is a WordPress.com section under their forums, I believe they would not object :) I assume it would not be too difficult to migrate the existing forums from the old location to the new one?
