Support: Can't get rid of "expired domain" overlay notice
-
Hi,
I have the same problem as the first post in this forum topic: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/cant-get-rid-of-expired-domain-overlay-notice
Basically I have some expired domains. I want to keep the website functioning but at wordpress.com and no longer want to pay for the domains.
However, the overlay notice still shows even though the wordpress.com domain has been made the primary domain.
This is the case for the following websites:
mpbackyarders.org.za to mpbackyarders.wordpress.com
antieviction.org.za to westerncapeantieviction.wordpress.comThanks for your help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Note that if your remove the domain then all the links to your content in search engines and everywhere they appear on the internet will be broken. Everyone who clicks one will get a 404 page not found http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/08/05/avoid-creating-404-pages/
If you want to proceed type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for Staff help. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Then please subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond. Hi there,
I have removed the expired domain mapping subscriptions from mpbackyarders.wordpress.com and westerncapeantieviction.wordpress.com on your account. You should no longer see the overlay when you visit either site.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or issues.
Thanks!

Thank you.
Why doesn’t wordpress allow you to do this yourself though? Its quite annoying to have to ask for help when there should a simple way of doing it oneself.

Hi there,
Domains can be very tricky to get back once lost, so we show the overlay in the hope of helping people from mistakenly losing them. I can understand how it must have been annoying in your situation though, and we’ll continue to think about ways we can improve this.
Let me know if you have any extra questions on this. I’ll be happy to help in any way I can.
Thanks,
