Support for HTTPS for custom domain

  • Unknown's avatar

    When users navigate to tazkerat.org over https, a scary warning on the browsers show up, and rightly so. Here’s what firefox says:

    tazkerat.org uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is only valid for the following names: *.wordpress.com, wordpress.com (Error code: ssl_error_bad_cert_domain)

    Is SSL/TLS supported for custom domains? If so, how can I set one up for my blog?

    Thanks.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    https is currently not supported on WordPress.COM for custom domain names.

    Since some search engines are starting to downgrade web sites that do not support https this has been a sore spot for some of us with custom domain names for some time – seems to me this has been an issue for a year or better – some places do support https with domain mapping

    I will flag this for staff attention and see if they have any news or time line

    So for now you need to make sure the “s” is not in the https thing

    And yes the warning is a bit unnerving

    @iquebe:

    I’m sorry for the concern. Unfortunately, we can only offer matching SSL certificates for *.wordpress.com sites at the moment.

    If this is crucial for you, you might try using URL forwarding at a domain registrar, to forward your domain address to the *.wordpress.com address.

    We don’t have a timeline on offering matching SSL certs for custom domains.
