Suppress dates, rearrange order of posts?

  • Unknown's avatar

I thought I saw an article that said you can suppress dates on posts.

I have a site that is composted of half pages, half posts. I won’t be blogging there in future, most likely. I want posts to they go in the search engines under tags, not just pages which don’t.

I would like to keep the posts in a certain order, but I see any editing automatically throws posts to the top of the list.

I think I’m about to get this WordPress thing down! :) I like it. Just have a few lingering questions.

    Help is appreciated.

Hi. In order to help you, we need the URL of your blog, starting with http://

    Sorry.

    www/inthematterof.wordpress.com

There are no published posts, only pages.

    THanks

    You mean http://inthematterof.wordpress.com

When you edit a post, go to the sidebar on the right-hand side of the page and edit the date there. That’s how you control the order.

Actually, I meant www.(dot)inthematterof.wordpress.com. That works for me. Any reason to use http:// instead of www. ?

I had to discover that the post has to be published before the ability to edit the date is available.

I had only drafts, and that feature does not show up in drafts.

So maybe this will help some other new person who is finding their way with WordPress.

Again, is there a way to suppress dates altogether on posts?

    Thanks.

Because www isn’t accurate. No matter if you put the w’s in or not, the blog will resolve to the version without.

There is no way to suppress dates on posts as far as I know, because chronology and timeliness are an inherent part of posts.

WordPress doesn’t use the www because it is passe in the web world, and actually replaced by your “inthematterof”. Using www in links can cause file not found errors as some browsers may not resolve and redirect to the non-www domain name. It also confuses search engines since there is no www in wordpress.com domain names. If you go to your blog main page and look at what shows in your browser address bar, this is what you will see: http://inthematterof.wordpress.com/ .

On posts that have not yet been published, you can change the date to a time before the current date before publishing it. Then when you publish it it will show the past date you entered.

You have all pages, which do not show dates. I’m confused as to where the dates are that you want to suppress. If you have actual “posts” that you will be putting up on the site, then the only way to hide the date is through the paid CSS upgrade and in many if not most cases, hiding the date will also hide other things such as author or tags or categories or perhaps the “comments” link. It all depends on the way the author did the CSS and the markup.

The date on posts that haven’t been published is always “not yet”.

I wanted to follow up on this question because I’ve worked with a designer to build a website (http://shahryar.net) using WordPress. I have my pages (“Home”,”About”,etc) as pages for the site and have my blog posts – but what can I do for my pages which are more like posts – not actual site pages? for example, I have a “To Read” page I just started where I want to keep adding items that are recommended to me to read. It’s not really a blog post because the date it was first published isn’t important. It seems it should be a page but I am not sure how to separate it from my other WordPress pages which are actual site pages.

    any thoughts?
