For the last ~48 hours or so, this “notification bar” inserts itself from the right of my WP screen, and I cannot seem to remove it. the “little bell” icon is inoperative. I went into settings and turned off all notifications, but this has no effect. what it does is takes over 1/3 of my screen. As a UX designer, I am horrified and imagine that millions more face this, too. Here’s what I mean, the right WP notifications bar. I do not want this. At all. I track this stuff in the jetpack app on my phone, do not need it here

You had the right instinct to click the notification bell to dismiss the list of notifications. If clicking the bell is not working this may be a browser issue.
