  • Hi there,

WordPress.com emails will always come from an @wordpress.com email address. That email is not from us.

I see you bought a domain from us in August, but you didn’t buy private registration. The contact details for all domain owners at all registrars are kept in a database called the Whois database. This is a public database, meaning the contact details are visible to anyone who knows how to look it up. Private registration is a service where we pay the registrar so they hide that contact details from being publicly visible.

There are many scammers out there who looks up recently registered domains and then email, or even paper-mail domain owners, claiming that you need to register their domain on search engines at a fee before the domains can be found in search results, or claiming that the domain will expire or be suspended if you don’t pay an additional fee. All those emails are scams, and you can ignore them, spam them, or even report them as phishing if you use an email provider that has that option.

To prevent more people like this from accessing your info you can still enable private registration from My Site ->Domains if you want.
