suspicious email

  Received this email after I signed up for a new wordpress.com site with domain name. doesn’t really look like its from WordPress to me plus I already clicked through on one to activate my account. It did not have the WordPress logo and had a bright orange banner on the top and bottom, sent from this address: ((email visible only to moderators and staff)) Please advise.

  Hi there!

  Sounds like the ICANN-required verification email for your domain’s contact email address. Does it look like the one here?

  Register a New Domain

  If so, you should indeed verify with it. The ICANN verification will be required to properly service your domain if you ever lose access to it or need to transfer it between registrars.

  Thanks Alex, That looks like it except it is orange on top. The problem was it didn’t look like the other communication I received from wordpress from the beginning and it took several days after I signed up to come in. Thanks for clearing this up. Paul

  Definitely better to be safe than sorry! I believe the reason the email looks different is because ICANN wants the email to look the same, regardless of the service from which you purchased the domain. That’s why there’s no WordPress.com branding or anything.
