Suspicious Followers

I have some suspicious following activity. I believe the same person has signed up to follow my blog numerous times in recent days since the first 3 letters of their user name is always the same. The nature of their posts are the same too. I am not sure if they are doing this to try to get me to click on their links which I will not do. I don’t want to publish the suspicious url’s here but if someone who works at wordpress would like to investigate please contact me.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I did not receive any feedback for this suspicious, phishing activity. This person is continuing to follow my blog multiple times with different names but all beginning with the same 3 letters ‘bkg______”. Anyone else seeing this? I believe they want me to click on their links, usually about jewelry. This is not what following is supposed to be about and would prefer this follower just go away.

What happens if you go to “people” and just remove him? I added modlook to your tags by the way to get a staff member look at your problem.

Thank you. I didn’t know I could do that. I have a list of ‘followers’ (but not ‘people’) under site stats. Are you saying I can delete particular followers? I will try.

  • Hi, @denisebushphoto , you can find your people here:
    https://wordpress.com/people/team

And if it feels like they’re spamming you, please do go ahead and report their sites. We try to detect spammy activity and block spammers automatically, but if this one slipped by, a report will have that fixed soon.

    Cheers!

OK, thank you very much. I will report the blogs to the link you provided. I see where I can remove this person as well.

It looks like I would have to click on each of the urls to report each one separately. I don’t really want to click on those links. I will just remove every time they follow.

So, no sooner have I removed them from the follow list and they followed me again. No one needs to follow me 8 times or more… I’m not that interesting!

They just followed 4 more times after I deleted them.

  • @denisebushphoto, for what it’s worth, what you’ve described sounds more like spam (unwanted advertising) than phishing (trying to steal your personal information).

Most phishing sites would trick you into entering info. They might pop up something that looks like a Facebook login box, or create a whole site that looks like your bank. You’d typically have to actually give them personal information.

Either way, though, neither spamming nor phishing is allowed here, so we’d appreciate having enough details to find them and shut them down.

You could also right-click on the links in your email and copy the link. I hope that helps!
