Swirching to WordPress.org
-
Hi I am very frustrated. Help! I want to switch my blog to wordpress.org so I can advertise on my blog. I had a premium theme so I wasn’t allowed to us a guided switch. Since I need help with the transfer I switched to a non premium theme. I am still unable to buy a guided transfer. I tried to do it myself but it was too confusing. I have a blue host account already. How can I purchase a guided transfer?

I’ll need to remove the theme from your account, but it has passed the refund period, so I can’t generate a refund for it. Is that okay?
Otherwise, you’ll need to install WordPress from http://wordpress.org/ on a hosting provider. We have some recommendations at http://get.wp.com/hosting/
Once that’s done, you can move your content following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.
http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/WordPress.org has complete support and documentation sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress at:
http://wordpress.org/support/
http://codex.wordpress.org/We do offer yearly and one-time premium support packages for self-hosted WordPress sites through our VIP program, available at http://vip.wordpress.com

I am fine not getting a refund. I love the theme and it was worth it. I just really need to switch to wordpress.org so could you remove the theme?
-
-
I have canceled your theme as requested.
Please let us know if you need any further assistance!

What is the best time to do the switch. I went to my blog and it said today’s limit has been reached. When should I try tomorrow. Thanks!

I tried early in the morning but it was still unavailable. Do you know when the guided transfers will be up and running again?
-
We add more every morning, but we can only handle a small amount each day since they require a few hours.

Hi, I am making progress but bluehost says I need to do this… Contact the domain registrar and ask them to point the name servers of the domain to ns1.bluehost.com and ns2.bluehost.com…. how do i do this?
-
To point the domain you registered at WordPress.com to another server (hosting service), please follow the instructions here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#update-nameserversNote you will need to obtain the name server values from your current host. You should be able to find them on their support documentation, or contact them and ask for the information. (Name servers may be referred as “nameservers” or “NS records” instead.)
Hope this helps – let us know if you have any more questions!

Thank you for the help I am just really frustrated. I read through the instructions but none of the stuff on the instructions showed up on my screen. I am really at a loss and frustrated this is so hard and taking so long. Is there anyway I can get on a list for a guided transfer or at least know when I can get one.
-
We really can’t provide a waiting list, my best recommendation is to keep trying.
As for changing your nameservers, head to Store -> Domains in your blog’s Dashboard, then scroll to the bottom.
You should see a drop-down menu. Just select “Change Web Hosts” and that should get you started.

Hi, I am really frustrated. I have been trying for a week to do this myself and now I know how to switch it but can’t get the comments to go to my new site. I have been waking up at 6am every morning this week to try to get a guided transfer without any luck. I really need my comments so can you at least tell me what time zone you guys are on? I have a baby to take care of as well and I think it’s really unfair that WordPress.com is so general about the guided transfers.
-
I don’t want to wait another week only to find out that I still can’t get a guided transfer. My blog is very important to me and helped me survive postpartum depression and I don’t want to loose all my heartfelt comments from friends but I guess I will have to if wordpress.com continues to not help me at all.
-
Did you try exporting and importing from the Tools section of your blog’s Dashboard?
As for Guided Transfer, we’ll be adding a few more slots soon, so you’ll probably have a better chance next week.
