Switch domain from wordpress to square space

Hi There,
I am trying to switch my blog to square space (v6) and am not able to switch over the domain I have registered with word press. Can you help me?
Can you please point the A Record
to 65.39.205.61 for mamarosemary.com?
Square space should be all ready to go, please let me know when it is changed.

Hi Angela,
We can do that for you, though your best solution, longterm, would be transferring your domain to a different registrar. While registering your domain with WordPress.com provides a great deal of options, assigning a root A record (what Squarespace requires) isn’t possible without contacting support.
In the end, we’d rather you have the ability to control this yourself if you no longer wish to use WordPress.com. Our support document for how to do this can be found here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/transfer-domain-registration/
Looking at your account, since the domain will be expiring at the end of the month, now is a perfect time to transfer to a different registrar.
In the meantime, I have changed the A record for you so you can start using Squarespace now. When you transfer, this would need to be setup on the new registrar as well. It can take a few hours to become effective Internet-wide.

Thanks so much again for your help. I do need to register my domain by 8/31. I would like to keep it at word press for one more year if that is possible? (I know you recommend that I transfer it now however I am having some technical issues and would love some time to clear them up before I embark on another leg of this blog transferring journey.) If it is possible, should I include domain mapping when I re-register my domain?

Sure thing—you can renew your domain here for another year. The three pieces for the complete renewal are the domain registration, domain mapping, and private registration for $26.

I am so sorry to keep bothering you but I have another question…
I just renewed my registration and the receipt I got said “Item: Domain Registration – mamarosemary.com mapped to http://moonsprig.wordpress.com”.
A few weeks ago you all so kindly helped me by pointing the A Record
to 65.39.205.61 for mamarosemary.com. Is this still set up so I can use square space? I just don’t know how to tell and want to be sure.

You’re all set. The language, while for most folks is straightforward, is meant in your case that the domain is tied to your WordPress.com account, even though it directs folks to your SquareSpace site.
In short, you’re all set!
