Switch domains
-
Hello, I have another website with Weebly but I just don’t like them anymore. I would like to switch my paid domain to WordPress but I don’t know how to do that or what steps I need to take. It would be nice to know. Thank You.

HI elizaamaro29
Unfortunately, WordPress doesn’t accept incoming domain transfers at this time, however, you can get any domain that you own to work with your WordPress site.
You will need to map the existing domain that you own to WordPress, by following the detailed instructions here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/However, it is important to note the following — you will need a paid plan to map a domain:
You will need an upgraded WordPress.com plan on your site in order to map a domain. Each paid plan comes with a free domain credit you can use to either register a new domain or map one you already own. You can map as many additional domains to the same site as you would like, but you have to pay for additional mapping upgrades separately.
Part of the domain mapping process will involve changing the name servers at Weebly. I’ve gone ahead found the Weebly support document which contains the steps for how to do this:
https://hc.weebly.com/hc/en-us/articles/201184656-Manage-Nameserver-RecordsOne more thing to note — it may take a moment (or perhaps a few) for everything to click into place:
Depending on the order that you add everything, you may want to head back over to Domains and make sure the domain you just mapped is set as your primary domain.
Once it’s set as the primary, if the domain doesn’t load correctly or you see an error, don’t worry. It can take a few hours for your domain name servers (DNS) to update fully. You will also likely need to clear your browser’s cache.
Good luck! If you have any further questions, please let us know.
