  Ack, stumbling around has penalties. I’ve begun my new site on wordpress.com when I wanted wordpress.org. How do I get that switched? Anyone?

  Log out from WordPress.com if you don’t wish to work on a site here. The WordPress.org software needs installing at some other host of your choosing.
