Switch from .com to .org but already paid subscription

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there!

I’d like to switch from wordpress.com to wordpress.org.

    1. Do I have to “sign-up” somewhere else? Cam I keep the same login info?
    2. I have already paid for a subscription (should be less than 30 days). How do I get a refund?
    3. Anything else I need to know to make the switch? I have designers and a host site. Now its just basically “signing up”

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Howdy,

    Sure thing!

    1. WordPress.org isn’t another service, per se, but a piece of web software that lives on your own server. You’ll need to have an account on your install of WordPress.org, that would be unique to your site. Basically, you’ll have your own micro-version of WordPress.com on your own server. There are a few other differences that are outlined here: WordPress.com and WordPress.org
    2. We’re well within the refund window. You can request a refund from the Store->My Upgrades page (direct link: https://themcrr.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades ). If you run into any problems, please let me know.
    3. I’d review the link under the first point. While similar, you’ll be responsible for more to keep your site running with a WordPress.org install, so good to be aware of that. We also have our Jetpack plugin that adds much of the functionality of WordPress.com that isn’t part of the WordPress.org software natively. You can read more about Jetpack at http://jetpack.me/?ref=happiness

Please let me know if you have any other questions and thanks for checking out WordPress.com. If there was anything in particular that led to you needing to move over to .org, please do let me know. We’re always interested in knowing what we could be doing better.

    Cheers!
