Switch from .org

Currently have site running on wordpress.org. If I switch to wordpress.com would the .org just convert to a .com?

No, you need to buy plan from wordpress.com and then you need to manually shift the website over to wordpress.com and you need to point/trasnfer your domain to wordress.com too

Hey there,
Many thanks for reaching out!

WordPress.org is where open source WordPress software is at another hosting provider. This is a bit different to a site hosted on WordPress.com. You can read about these differences here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
It’s possible to migrate from that hosting provider to WordPress.com, and we have this plugin here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wpcom-migration/ to help with that migration.
The process is as follows:
- Create a site on WordPress.com, site is created under a temporary domain (for example: mysite.WordPress.com).
- The migration of the site takes place (Using Move to WordPress.com plugin). The live site, remains as is. The site at WordPress.com is a duplicate of the live site, under the temporary domain.
- The domain is then either transferred away from the current host, or connected to WordPress.com using custom DNS.
- One connected, the domain for site at WordPress.com can be switched from mysite.WordPress.com to the custom domain.
To move a site from another provider to WordPress.com – a WordPress.com Business plan would need to be in place.
I hope this helps!
