switch to Pro?
-
We are thinking of moving to Pro. We do have a domain name already on a free host with a redirect to this one, since our webmaster is retiring and we will be doing the upgrades. Do you arrange for our name (http://www.csrbc.org) to be directed to you? What is the hosting cost per year after the $99 service fee is paid?

OK, I must be misunderstanding the process. I thought my website could be migrated to a “real” url and was uncertain about how that happened.
So for 99$, wordpress will migrate it for us? Is there any way we can make a backup and do this ourselves?

If you want your existing custom domain name to be displayed when people visit your WordPress.COM site – you want Domain Mapping for $ 13– / year – add the cost of your domain name at your existing registrar.
Depending on what your site has on it – some people add the No Ads Upgrade for $ 30– / year (WordPress.COM pays the bills by running ads on sites)
-
You can migrate yourself – Export from your old site and Import to here – be sure to bring the pictures – once your site is set up here then do the domain mapping and remove your old site –
I don’t think WordPress.COM offers a migrate to WordPress.COM – there are people you can hire that will do that for you if you want

OK, I am getting it now. If I export the xml file and then import it into a new instance of wordpress on a hosted site, it will have all my content, but not my images?
-
The XML file has links to the images – there is a check box somewhere that you need to check to tell the images to be moved else they will be hot linked to your old site
@RC – Guided Transfer is now $ 129–
