switched themes – widget issues
-
I switched themes (adelle to flounder) and for some reason all my old widgets, from years ago, reappeared in the place of my current widgets. i switched back to adelle and the current widget returned. i tried the switch to flounder again; first using preview and then activating it, but same deal – the old widgets re-appeared and the current ones disappeared.
what’s the deal?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Amory, widget settings are theme-specific on WordPress. This basically means that when you apply a new theme it won’t remember your widgets from your old theme and you simply need to set them up as you like them to be again.
If you need help figuring out how to go about doing this we have a help page with screenshots over here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/

then how come the widgets appeared in the preview?
and why did my old, long ago, deleted widgets reappear? -
Hi Amory,
When you do it preview it picks up your current widget settings but when you activate it it will apply the default settings. I know this is inconvenient sometimes :-(
The long ago deleted widgets you refer to are the WordPress.com default widgets and while you can remove them from the theme they are not actually ‘deleted’. They’re still available for use.
Hope this helps.
