Switching back to classic format
-
(Sorry if this comes up twice – I don’t think my first attempt at submitting it went through.)
Both of my blogs have been switched to the block editor, which I find impossible to use. I wasn’t even warned that this would happen – I just opened an existing post to edit it and found that it had been changed. At what is a stressful time anyway, this was very, very upsetting.
I was sent an e-mail in May showing me that, if I clicked on the three dots on the right hand side, there would be a “switch to classic editor” tab under “options”, but it isn’t there. If I create a new post then, as long as I do nothing to it in block editor, I can open it in classic editor from the list of new posts in the admin section, but this is a hassle. How do I set things so that new posts automatically open in classic editor, please?
Thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’ve tried “adding a classic block” as suggested elsewhere, but what comes up is absolutely nothing like the old classic editor, so that option doesn’t work.

I’m dumbfounded how that block editor made it this far in this day and age where UI/UX best practices and user acceptance have been well established.
What WordPress has essentially done here is take away an interface which worked exactly the way it should and replace it with an inferior interface that requires about 10x the number of clicks and scrolls to accomplish the same tasks. It is abhorrent at best.
What’s worse is the Classic Editor which we all had, is now a plugin for which I must pay a $250 upgrade to enable on one site (I have several sites). WOW!

No-one from the Word Press help team has replied to me, even though I posted this 18 hours ago. I can see dozens and dozens of posts all from people asking how to go back to the Classic Editor, but the advice given is not helpful – as I’ve said, the “classic block” bears no resemblance to the classic editor. Given how many people are upset about this, please, please will you restore the Classic Editor? Thank you.

Hi there,
Please see @supernovia’s reply at https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/i-dont-want-a-brand-new-format/page/4/#post-3571484
If you have specific feedback about something that doesn’t work, or that you think can work better in the block editor, please add it to that thread.
However, the block editor is here to stay. It has been the default editor in the free, open source WordPress software since December 2018, and is now the default editor on WordPress.com as well, as it’s no longer feasible for us to continue maintaining our own in-house version of the classic editor in parallel to the WordPress editor. Our version of the classic editor has been removed from our codebase, so there is no way to go back to it.
I am closing this thread to further replies, so we can keep all feedback in the thread I linked to above.
