switching between wordpress accounts in commenting, reblogging etc.
-
I have two different WordPress sites. The older one is a couple of related personal/quasi-professional blogs on WordPress.com where my username is a pseudonym and I’m linked to a personal email address. The newer one is a professional web site and blog hosted by my employer that uses WordPress.org and I’m linked to my work email address. I can be logged on to both blogs (in different tabs of a browser) at the same time. When I encounter someone else’s blog, I would like to be able to choose which identity I’m using when commenting. Is there anyway to use my professional identity and link in commenting on a WordPress.com blog? Also I’d like to be able to ‘reblog’ posts to my professional site. When I’m logged in using my personal identity, I’m offered the ‘reblog’ option, but not when I log in using my professional identity. Frankly, there’s only one me and the identity of my ‘personal’ pseudonym is an open secret my profession. I could change my screen name on the personal blogs. (I see how to do that.) But I still don’t see how to be able to ‘reblog’ to my work-hosted site.

I have two different WordPress sites.
What are both site URLs?
Exactly which username accounts registered each one?

Howdy :)
Thank you for asking for the necessary details, timethief.
pamelaoliver, please share the two site URL’s so I can take a detailed look at all the information involved here.

Sorry for incomplete original info. Professional site:
http://www.ssc.wisc.edu/soc/racepoliticsjustice/
personal site:
https://sociologicalconfessions.wordpress.com/Two different logins. Different emails, different usernames.

By the way, I see that WordPress picked up my “personal”user ID when I replied to this message, even though I was logged in and posted the original inquiry (and received email update about it) through my professional ID.

Howdy –
Let’s see if we can get this all straightened out for you :)
I’ll start by clarifying that there are 2 versions of WordPress. What we do here at WordPress.com differs from using the WordPress installation with a separate host.
The details for these differences are at https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/This also means that you have different logins for the sites that you’ve shared, as they are hosted at 2 different places, and are not connected in any way.
http://www.ssc.wisc.edu is using the WordPress installation with a separate host. This site is hosted through University of Wisconsin, Madison – not here at WordPress.com. Help with this site comes from the community at wordpress.org/support/ We aren’t able to help with this site here in the WordPress.com forums. Again, these are 2 separate things.
You have 2 different WordPress.com user accounts. olderwoman and pamelaoliver. Each of these accounts is unique in that they require a unique email address to be registered to them. It’s not possible to have multiple accounts under one email address.
My suggestion is to go to WordPress.com and sign out of both accounts. Then sign back in to the account that you want to use for comments. Your browser is likely storing this information.
Let me know if you have further questions.

First, yes I know about the two platforms. I thought I made that clear in the original post.
Second, I was trying to address the question that “reblog” does not appear to be an option when I am logged in as pamelaoliver on my professional site. Is that correct? I cannot “reblog” something to a wordpress.org blog?
There appears to be a different pamelaoliver identity that I created in 2008 that is NOT tied to my professional blog. I think it is tied to scatter.wordpress.com I seem to have used that in my initial query.
Third, yes I tried logging out of one site and into the other. I did that. But the WordPress forum did not recognize my other login. To log in to this site, I seem to have created yet another identity. This identity is tied to the same email address as my professional blog http://www.ssc.wisc.edu/soc/racepoliticsjustice/ but the name pamelaoliver was already taken (by my 2008 identity) and so I seem to have created a third identity which uses the email address attached to my professional site but isn’t linked to it.
The lesson I believe I am learning is that I CANNOT use the identity associated with my ssc.wisc.edu blog/webpage as a username in the WordPress.com world. And I CANNOT “reblog” anything on a WordPress.org site that is hosted elsewhere. And I have now proliferated yet another web identity. Sigh. I THINK I got my question answered.

It’s not possible to reblog posts from WordPress.com to your WordPress.org site.
The lesson I believe I am learning is that I CANNOT use the identity associated with my ssc.wisc.edu blog/webpage as a username in the WordPress.com world.
You could have the same username for both WordPress.org and WordPress.com if it also available on WordPress.com. If anyone has registered it previously though you would not be able to use that username. They are not recycled or reused.
If you are the one who previously registered the user account you may be able to gain access to it again with proof of ownership.
Is there a different username, that you’ve not posted from here in the forums, which you are trying to access?
olderwoman is an admin on scatter.wordpress.com but does not own that site.

Thank you! Whom should I contact by PM to address the identity issues and provide appropriate proof of registration etc.? I currently have registration access to all three names: pamelaoliver olderwoman and pamelaoliversociology, but the only wordpress blogs are attached to olderwoman.

I want to make sure I understand. Can you share which sites should be attached to which accounts?
