switching domain names to another blog

I’ve got a problem, and it’s complicated… I had a site “americasfitnesscoach.com… on that site I added and paid for the domain “americasfitnesscoach.com, after which I set the domain servers to wordpress on godaddy. I wanted to do a makeover of the site, which I did by creating another blog https://fitnessmotivationevents.wordpress.com/… I then purchased a premium theme and created new content. I did it this way verses changing the theme on the original americasfitnesscoach site because ultimately it was much easier. I then reset the domain servers in godaddy and forwarded americasfitnesscoach.com to the new blog site. After doing this, I have two problems (1) I can no longer get back to the original blog (it’s critical that I get back to this site!) (2) I don’t know how to set up the americasfitnesscoach.com domain on the new blog… when I attempt to do so it says, “This domain has already been mapped to a WordPress.com blog.” PLEASE HELP!!

  • I’ll be glad to help you with this.

I can no longer get back to the original blog (it’s critical that I get back to this site!)

If the original blog was americasfitnesscoach.wordpress.com, you can still manage it through this link:

    https://americasfitnesscoach.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

The domain americasfitnesscoach.com is currently still mapped to that site, although it’s not working correctly at the moment, because the domain is set to use GoDaddy’s name servers:

    ns47.domaincontrol.com
    ns48.domaincontrol.com

To solve this issue, we’ll need to do two things:

    1. If you want to map americasfitnesscoach.com to fitnessmotivationevents.wordpress.com instead of americasfitnesscoach.wordpress.com, just confirm here and I can transfer the upgrade for you.

    2. To complete the mapping, you’ll need to log into your GoDaddy control panel and update the name servers for americasfitnesscoach.com to these:

    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com
    ns3.wordpress.com

Please be sure to first read our guide to mapping an existing domain – especially the heads-up about any email accounts you may have on the domain.

Thanks so much! Yes, I do want to map americasfitnesscoach.com to fitnessmotivationevents.wordpress.com instead of americasfitnesscoach.wordpress.com. I will go into godady and update the name servers as soon as you let me know that you’ve made the transfer upgrade.

I assume that after all that is complete I will then be able to access the original site through americasfitnesscoach.wordpress.com

  • americasfitnesscoach.com is now mapped to fitnessmotivationevents.wordpress.com. Once you’ve updated the name servers in your GoDaddy control panel and the change has taken effect, you can set americasfitnesscoach.com as the primary domain under Store > Domains here:

    https://fitnessmotivationevents.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains

I assume that after all that is complete I will then be able to access the original site through americasfitnesscoach.wordpress.com

Yes, that’s right. Please give it at least a few hours after updating the name servers for the DNS changes to fully propagate. If you run into any issues, just let me know.

  • One final thing – if you’d like to enable auto-renew on the domain mapping upgrade on the new site, you can do it under Store > My Upgrades:

    https://fitnessmotivationevents.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades

Thanks… I appreciate all your help. One other question; the former americasfitnesscoach blog has a premium template that I purchased… is there a way for me to use that already bought template on one of my other blogs?

  • Yes, if you let me know to which site you’d like the Traction premium theme transferred, I can take care of it you.
