Switching expired domain to free wordpress.com domain

    I help a student newspaper and we’re running into financial trouble. We’re creating our own website now and hope to transfer our content eventually. Our domain expired about a month ago and we’re hoping to switch the expired domain to the free domain until our new website is ready since there are a lot of articles we need to publish soon. Does anyone know if switching to the free domain will affect our current content (take down certain articles or limit our storage) or affect the transfer process for our content? The research I’ve done suggests this may not happen but we are unfamiliar with WordPress and don’t want to take any chances.

    I don’t see any sites under your account, what’s the address of the site you’re working on?

    In general, the domain change shouldn’t affect the content but please note that we are only able to advise about sites that are hosted here, on WordPress.com. If your site is using the open-source WordPress.org software, you may want to check it with your host. You can also seek help at these forums:
