switching from 2011 to 2015 theme
-
Hi,
When live previewing the 2015 theme, I noticed that my 2011 menu bar wasn’t there. This suggested to me that upgrading to that theme might not be as easy as it looks and that some of my 2011 customizations may have to be redone in 2015. Do you think this is the case?All the best

Any time you change themes, you may have to reconstruct some features, like widget placements and Custom menus, which while a bit of a pain is usually not fatal.
Did you see your Custom Menu as an option in the Customizer? You may have to select it in order to see it.

Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for the excellent advice. As I’m a bit of a novice, I completely overlooked that. Works great.
I did notice though that the post I looked at had migrated across in two different fonts. This suggests I’ll probably have to reformat each one – or is there a quicker, smarter way of doing this?
All the best, and thanks again

Glad to help, Bruce.
Different themes may use different fonts. Unless you have the Custom Design or Premium bundle upgrade, you won’t be able to change that.

Ah, and I see one of my fellow forum volunteers has noted that you haven’t mentioned the address of your website. It does make a difference if your site is hosted here on WPcom or hosted elsewhere, so a link would indeed be helpful. :)

Hi Jennifer,
Thanks, I’m most grateful.

If I purchase Custom Design and choose a font I like, and probably will never change again, do I have to purchase Custom Design each year to retain the use of that font?
All the best

Hi, Bruce. The Custom Design upgrade is only for blogs/sites hosted by WordPress.com

Ah, thanks Galois. When I initially decided on developing a site I had no idea that WP offered a hosting service.
So it seems if I do switch from 2011 to 2015 I’ll have to reformat each post to ensure there’s only a single font?
All the best and thanks for the interest and information.

@offerheoffer
Please do not post into any thread unless you are 100% sure that you have searched the support docs and forum threads and are posting a correct answer that’s actually helpful. You have been creating a pattern of behavior that does not suggest the foregoing and it’s unfair to those who create threads to have meaningless blather posted into them. -
@cooper177
I’m sorry but we cannot help as that site is not hosted by WordPress.COM and those are the only blogs we provide support for.WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there.
Resetting your WordPress.ORG password http://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password
WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page
