Switching from .com to .org but all tutorials assume I know more than I do.

I purchased a domain through “Automattic” and have been reading tutorials on how to switch from wordpress.com to wordpress.org. I am totally lost reading these tutorials because I don’t have enough knowledge to do things they ask… like, how to I access the control panel on my server?
I have spent all day reading tutorials which require me to read other tutorials to know what they’re talking about, and still having to read yet more tutorials to understand the tutorials to understand other tutorials. It is very frustrating!
The site I’m trying to upgrade is here:
If anyone can point in in the directions of the appropriate guide for these problems, like the “For Dummies” version, I’d really appreciate that!
Thank you for reading!

Hi there,
We have a guide to Moving to a Self-Hosted WordPress Site that walks through to steps to move from WordPress.com to a self-hosted WordPress site (using the free software from WordPress.org). If you’d rather have help making that move, we also offer a Guided Transfer service that will get you all set up with a self-hosted site.
Are there particular features you’re looking for in a self-hosted site that you aren’t getting here at WordPress.com? That’s helpful feedback for us, and I can also make sure there aren’t ways to accomplish what you’re looking for without having to go through a big move.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)
