Switching from Compendium to WordPress

I am taking a blog that is on Compendium, and want to switch it over to WordPress. How can I do that, without shutting down the Compendium blog while I develop the WordPress version?

In order to import your content into a free hosted WordPress.com blog you require an XML export file to import. http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/
Do take the time to examine exactly which types of blogs are allowed here at WordPress.com and which are not allowed. Example: Affiliate marketing blogs are not allowed here. http://en.wordpress.com/types-of-blogs/
