switching from old style editor AND setting up custom domain name

  • Unknown's avatar

hmm. I have had my site since 2010 and always used the old editor. I see now that I am going to have to switch, and at the same time, figured I might as well see about using one of the domain names I already own. But those are through GoDaddy. So, how do I do these things? I am a writer, but my skills for these are pretty basic. I will have books for sale but I do not really need a store per se. I think I am ok to go for the personal account rather than the basic, but sometimes too many variables mean I do nothing. Anybody set me on the right path?

  • Hi there,

I’m glad to hear you’re willing to try out the block editor. If you just want to write, it’s pretty much the same as any editor – just start typing and press Enter when you want a new line. The only major difference is that your paragraphs get assigned to blocks which you can move around, and you can apply different stylings to different blocks.

And if you want to get creative with additional elements and page layouts, the possibilities with the block editor are endless.

We have an overview to help you learn how it works here:

To use your GoDaddy domain, you’ll need one of our paid plans. The Personal Plan is sufficient if that’s your main goal, though it will also remove ads from your site, allow you to upload audio files to the media library (in case you want to start a writing podcast :) ), and gives you access to live chat support. The Personal Plan will also allow you to sell subscriptions on your site, if you wanted to have some content on your site only available to paid subscribers.

You can find the steps to connect your domain to us once you have the plan here:

Please let me know if you have any more questions about this.
