Switching from Wild West Domains to Bluehost

    Hi,

I recently transferred from wordpress.com to wordpress.org, with Bluehost. I had someone transfer my wordpress.com blog to Bluehost and all went smoothly. I then got an email from Bluehost stating that my domain name for http://www.whirlwind-travel.com was expiring soon and to contact my current registrar (wild west domains) to renew my domain before it expires. I was unable to contact Wild West Domains but my domain was automatically renewed through Wild West Domains.

I would like to transfer my domain name registration to Bluehost so that it is all in one place. I found a few options when googling how to do this, but none will work.

    1. I cannot access Settings > Domains in my wordpress dashboard
    2. I was never given any log in information for Wild West Domains to manage my domain through their website.
    3. When attempting to transfer registration through Bluehost, it states that Wild West Domains has locked the ability to transfer.

Does anyone have any advice for me or can explain this all to me? I would like to transfer my domain name to Bluehost, for Bluehost to renew my domain. However, because it was automatically renewed through Wild West Domains, does this mean I am unable to do that until next year when my domain name is close to expiry again?

    Thanks in advance,
    Michelle

    Hi Michelle,
Please take a look at this support page which covers the steps necessary to transfer your domain to Bluehost: https://en.support.wordpress.com/transfer-domain-registration/

Same situation as user above: .com-.org transfer with Bluehost and specifically Wild West Domains

Similar question: I am completing the final step of transferring my domain (EPP + transfer credentials confirmed), but I’m unsure of whether or not I need to contact the Losing Registrar myself, or if WordPress will handle the approval itself.

Aaccording to Bluehost, “Once you tell the Losing Registrar to release the domain, we will be able to accept the domain into your account.”; however, the WordPress Transfer Domain Registration support page doesn’t make any mention of having to contact Losing Registrar (aka WordPress) to initiate an approval.

Do I contact the Losing Registrar, or does WordPress automatically send the approval?

@estuberto – You do not need to contact Wild West Domains directly. The transfer approval part is handled by email. I believe the “Completing the transfer” section of the support page has the information you’re looking for:

Once you initiate the transfer, there is a waiting period of five days. During this period, you will receive an email to confirm or cancel the transfer. After confirmation, the domain will be transferred within five days.
