Switching from wordpress.com to wordpress.org

I’m looking to make the switch. Is it possible to do seamlessly? And, will I lose Google search standings when I do?

Any tips on how to do the physical transition?

    Thanks.

Depends what you mean by seamlessly. Since you’re using a custom URL already, the switch will be fairly smooth but there is still going to be a time during which the DNS will not have settled down, so do it on a slow night. Any theme customization won’t transfer over and not all of our themes are available for independently hosted WordPress.org blogs.

You WILL lose Google standing to a degree, because a smaller web host has less googlejuice than WordPress.com. That’s inescapable, but you can do your best to attract incoming links and that should offset it to a degree.

Lots of food for thought. Thanks so much for the info and quick response.
