Switching Hosts

I would like to switch to a different host while keeping my domain registered with WordPress (at least for now). I’ve already changed the nameservers, but when I attempted to install WordPress with my new host (hostgator) and access the admin page, I received a message saying that page does not exist.

When I look at my domain in the My Upgrades page, it tells me my DNS needs to be updated and that “We’ve completed the technical setup on our servers to successfully map your domain coffeeandfingernails.com to your WordPress.com blog. Now you have to edit the name servers at your registrar to point to us” which is of course the opposite of what I’m trying to do.

    Please help!

  • If you have set your nameservers to point to your new host, then you have done everything you need on our end. You are going to see that error message because our system is set up to approach domains as if they are being set up to point to WordPress.com.

If you have the nameservers entered correctly and are seeing an error, you are going to have to talk to the support team at your new webhost. It sounds like there was an issue with your WordPress install at HostGator.

Please let me know if you have further questions or if anything is unclear.
