switching hosts after registering and why can't I see my domain i upgraded to?

I need help with MyFrugalFamilyandMe.com page. Today I registered and paid for the ‘com’. I got an email telling me this…

“Hi there! We at WordPress.com just wanted to let you know that we have set your new domain, myfrugalfamilyandme.com, as the primary domain for your site, mommastwocents.wordpress.com.

The primary domain is the one that will display in the browser’s address bar. If you’d like to review the settings, just head on over to the link below.”

Does this mean MyFrugalFamilyandMe.com should come up when someone types it into Google, for example?? If so, it does not. What did I actually pay for because I see 2 names (Mommastwocents, and My Frugal Blog), not what I paid for.

Also, after upgrading/paying I was told by a fellow blogger to use an affiliate host. How can I switch over to another host? If I choose to not switch, which host is offered through wordpress.com?

Sorry for my questions, but I found it hard to find what I’m looking for. It seems as though I was getting sent in circles, trying to find a simple answer. This is quite confusing/overwhelming to someone that is a newbie to the ‘blogging world’ like myself.

    Thanks

It takes up to seven weeks for a new domain to be indexed by google.

You paid to get a custom domain and attach it to your blog. Both URLs will work.

“An affiliate host?” As someone who has been an affiliate blogger on and off for six years, I have no idea what that means. You can use affiliate text links on your WordPress.com blog just fine; you cannot have ads or image affiliate links, though. If they mean you should change hosts so you can affiliate blog, realize that an independently hosted blog will cost a minimum of $120 a year, plus theme cost, and that you are responsible for all tech support, upgrades, updates, and security. And realize further that MOST independently hosted blogs specifically set up to generate advertising and affiliate income actually lose money.

Ah! Thank.You.So.MUCH! I’ve been having the most difficult time trying to get a hold of someone.
Yes, ‘affiliate host’ is exactly what I was told. From the sounds of it, perhaps I should stay as is because I don’t want to have to pay that amount, plus theme, etc.

    Thank you for your response!

Until you are very sure (and are averaging 1,000 readers per day) it is more economical to stay here.

That’s good advice! As you probably can tell, I’m very ‘green’ when it comes to blogging and am still learning/working my way around it.

    Thank you again, much appreciated!
