switching hosts back to you

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,
I started a blog at the end of July of this year and I had no clue what I was doing. What I downloaded the app it had my very old blog on there and I couldn’t get it to get the new one on there, so instead of asking for help, I just left and went to another host, even though I paid for this one. I’m unhappy with the host I’m with and I know now that you guys are the best. I know that I can switch hosts and bring all my stuff with me, but a few things after they give me the code how do I do that? Second I don’t know if I paid for .com or .org, so that may need to be switched. Third, I don’t know if my name is available and I do have a domain already and if it’s not was wondering if when people type in my site in google if the different name would pop up. I also have so many other questions for when I get here, but I just want to get here and get everything figured out.
    Thank you,
    Valene

I also wanted to say that I can’t remember the password with the email address that I had used this last time. This is not the account that it’s under

    Hi, @lotusflower0013,

I apologize that you have waited so long for a response.

In case you still need assistance,

I just left and went to another host, even though I paid for this one.

What is the full URL for the site? That is the first place we will start.

Second I don’t know if I paid for .com or .org, so that may need to be switched.

We’ll have to figure that out, as these forums are for WordPress.com support only but we can get you heading in the right direction either way.

Knowing your account that the site was under is a good first step. I would gain access to it using the password reset instructions below.

I also wanted to say that I can’t remember the password with the email address that I had used this last time. This is not the account that it’s under

If you remember the account name/email. You may follow these instructions to reset your password.

I’m unhappy with the host I’m with and I know now that you guys are the best. I know that I can switch hosts and bring all my stuff with me, but a few things after they give me the code how do I do that?

You may certainly switch hosts. With WordPress.com, incoming domain transfers (your site’s URL) are not accepted. You will have to map the domain rather than transfer it. It works – just differently behind the scenes.

I know you have more questions. I think this is a good starting point. Let me know where you are with the above and we’ll get you in the right place.

    Best Regards.

    Hello Christine,

Ok so here's the deal. Years ago I created an scoping with email address vh0013. That's the one that shows up when I download the app and I couldn't change it when I created a new account.

The account that is paid for is using email address vh0013 and the public name I had used was subscriptionboxaddictbestreviewer, but that's not the name I want.

So I don't know what information you need to go from here.

    Thank you,
    Valene

    Hi, Valene,

I want to make sure you and I are on the same page. The first thing you want to do is to see if you have any remaining time on your prior plan of the old account, correct?

If so, the first thing you’ll need to do with that is to recover it to confirm, unless you just want to move on from here and start over?

You’ll want to use the directions to recover the account that I gave you above, to do that first step. It is this link –> https://en.support.wordpress.com/passwords/#lost-password

Once you are in that account, we can walk through the next steps (see if you have a domain on the account and then transfer the plan). Note: We will need a Staff member’s assistance for that.

Let me know if you want to do that step or just start fresh and move on. I’m happy to walk you through what you need to do.
