Switching my account from wordpress.com to .org

  I need to change my wordpress.com account to a wordpress.org account. How do I do that?

  Also, I do not currently have any content on my wordpress.com site, so there is no content to transfer.

  Hi there,

  In that case are you only looking to change your domain name over to your new WordPress.org site?

  If so, you’ll just need to log in to your account with your domain registrar and change your nameservers over to your new hosts’ nameservers. Once you do that, your blog will be available at your domain name.

  Yep – I’m just looking to change my domain name over to WordPress.org. I’m having a hard time trying to set up an account on WordPress.org (I can’t find a registration page anywhere). Once I figure that out and find out what nameservers to list, I’ll be set.

  Heya,

  I just wanted to clarify something for you really quick. WordPress.org doesn’t host anything itself. WordPress.org is just the software side of things. You’ll need to find a third party company such as Bluehost, GoDaddy.com, HostGator, etc which will host your website for you. Once you have contracted with them and have some hosting space, then you can download the WordPress.org software, upload it to your new hosting space, and then you’ll be good to start going! The nameservers you’ll get from that new host!

  Thanks for the clarification. I do actually have it already hosted elsewhere (myhosting.com). They have a one-click install so all I ended up having to do was change the nameserver back to the address provided by my hosting (I had changed it to the nameservers for WordPress.com), then deleted the wordpress.com files via FTP, and then did myhosting’s one click install. So I’m up and running for the most part. Now I just have to figure out what’s going on with the third party theme I’m using. :)
