Switching plan

Our current blog is done through GoDaddy. We would like to switch to either the free or personal plan. This will depend on keeping our content and social media links on the sidebar. Can you help with this and how to switch?

Hi there, Sites using the free plan use either a .wordpress.com or .blog subdomain. In order to continue using your Custom Domain (thepageunbound.com) with a WordPress.com website would require at least the annual Personal plan upgrade. https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

You can export your WordPress site and import it here. Your content (posts, pages, comments, feedback, tags and categories) will come over, but your theme or any scripts/plugins you are currently using will not. To use those would require an upgrade to the Business plan upgrade.

You can see all the features of each plan on our page at https://wordpress.com/pricing/

If you haven’t yet, I suggest reading through our guide to transferring to WordPress.com from a WP install https://transferto.wordpress.com/self-hosted-wordpress-org/ and come back to use here if you have more questions.

Follow up question: Will our pictures also transfer over? I’m concerned that all of the pictures we dowloaded into posts will disappear once we switch over.

  • As long as your current site is online and still accessible at the domain that was active when you generated the export file, our importer should be able to fetch the images currently in that site’s media library.

If you find some images are missing after you complete the import, let us know and we can check if we’re able to fetch them manually instead.
