Switching themes

I have a question about switching themes. First, I have to say that I’m currently using a free plan. When first starting up you site, the theme called ‘Hever’ is selected by default for the homepage and all other pages (about, contact,…). I wanted to switch to a different theme, let’s say to the theme ‘Stow’. I previewed the homepage and the other pages and it looked nice, when I clicked to use this theme it only changed the homepage but not the contact, about, blog,… pages. Is there a reason why that happened?

    Hi there,

Could you share the URL of your site? Changing a theme should affect the way all pages and posts look.

If you mean that you only got the new theme’s page template for home, then that is the case for changing themes.

It is not published yet, but I’ve sent links to the screenshots.

On this one you can see the homepage of the Stow theme, and it looks exactly like in the preview.

On this screenshot, on the blog page, the menu layout is from the Stow theme but I guess I thought that it would change how the text layout would look and not take the layout from the previous theme, also pictures and everything also from the previous theme.

    Hi there,

I use Stow on most of my sites and that’s what it looks like for me. Those pages are using the default font and text layout for Stow. I can give the screenshots if you want.
Images used in blocks within pages/posts (for example, the cover block on your Blog page) will always stay the same when you switch to a different theme.

The only thing that will change is the home page, which will be switched to the new theme’s default (as it was for you).
The old theme’s homepage may be moved to Drafts. If you find it in Drafts you can restore it and delete the new theme’s template.
If you restore the old home page, it will still preview in the way the new theme would, but have the original content (i.e., it will have the menus/widgets of Stow, but if you’d already filled out information on the Home page before switching themes, it will appear on the home page which is now in Drafts).
Alternatively you can just delete Hever’s old home page if you don’t want it anymore.

The menus (and widgets) will also change, as they have done in your case.
(Custom CSS may also change, but if you haven’t got a premium or higher plan you don’t need to worry about that.)

So it looks like it has changed correctly.

Are you still unsure? If you are, read https://wordpress.com/support/themes/#my-content-and-switching-themes, and ask here if you have any more questions.
