Switching to a new domain
-
I just got my own domain and I’ve already exported and imported my blog to that new domain.
I am concerned that my readers will lose my blog. Is there a way to have my wordpress.com blog point to my domain’s blog ? Does this cost anything ?
Or should I just delete my wordpress.com blog and deal with losing some readers ?

What I’d suggest is making a static post with the info on your move and the URL of the new blog and making that the opening page of the blog.
-
Also getting rid of all of your widgets with teh exception of a single text widget explaining your move and providing a link would be helpful.

So is it not possible to have it point to my new domain ? ie I keep my wordpress.com blog, but somehow just redirect it to the new one ?
-
Nope.
That’s why what I’m doing is staying at wordpress.com and using my new domain name here (http://internetducttape.com)
When the time comes for me to move, then there’ll be a lot less links/visitors pointing in the wrong direction.

So there doesn’t seem to be a solution without buying domain mapping ? How much does that cost ?
-
It’s ten dollars.
As to a different solution, reply 1 and 2 there are free. It’s too easy to be abused by spammers and would require staff to keep up on what’s being redirected just to move out the username somewhere else.
