Switching to another shared hosting – font upgrades
-
I am currently on wordpress.com and am considering changing to another hosting site with a dedicated domain.
Currently I use a free theme, but would like to change the fonts. Do I buy the font upgrade of $30 now? If I buy it now, will it migrate with me to the new hosting site? Or do I need one, will this not be necessary if I am on another hosting site?
Thanks.

Your font upgrade will not migrate with you. Read this brief description of differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org. http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you do migrate to a self-hosted site, keep your WordPress.com site. Do not delete it. You may want to come back. You can make it private.
If you are thinking about migrating, spend some time over at WordPress.org reading some of their codex, especially http://codex.wordpress.org/New_To_WordPress_-_Where_to_Start to get some idea of the scope of the tasks before you. Remember you will also want to get familiar with using the tools provided by your web host. Many have cpanel access to fantastico or softaculous for adding programs and services like WordPress. You will also want to learn how to FTP files so you can set up your child themes, etc.
The freedom of the hosted WordPress.org sites must be balanced by the relatively easy and protected world at WordPress.com. Speech and warnings over… I have a foot in each world so I think about that balance frequently.
