Switching to Godaddy Hosting

  • Unknown's avatar

I just paid my annual renewal with WordPress for my domain name and hosting. I am considering switching to GoDaddy because they have telephone support. Is it possible to cancel my account at WordPress and receive a refund for the part of the year that I haven’t used? Also, how do I switch my domain to GoDaddy hosting? I’m guessing that when I put my domain in GoDaddy, it will say that it is taken.

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi,

So there are a couple of things going on here. The first is that the WordPress.com user account you are posting from is not the owner or admin of the site you are trying to access. This typically happens when you’ve ended up with a second WordPress.com user account and that second account is the one that owns the site. You’ll need to log into THAT user account in order to make any changes.

If you do not have access to that second account, here are a few options:

    Account recovery overview – https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/
    Lost password tool – https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
    Account recovery form – https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery

Take a look at those and let us know if anything is unclear or you have any further questions.

  • Secondly, to answer your specific questions:

Is it possible to cancel my account at WordPress and receive a refund for the part of the year that I haven’t used?

WordPress.com does not offer pro-rated refunds and your purchase is past the 14 day refund window.

Also, how do I switch my domain to GoDaddy hosting?

You can transfer out the registration of your domain with these instructions:

    https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/transfer-domain-registration/

…and you can move the content of your site itself with these instructions:

I am considering switching to GoDaddy because they have telephone support.

WordPress.com does not offer phone support. But we do offer world-class 24/7 livechat support that is included with your WordPress.com Premium site plan (you would need to be logged into the user account that owns the Premium upgrade, as I mention in my first reply).

I don’t see that you have accessed the livechat team for support. Do you mind if I ask why?
