Switching to New Theme and Block Editor

I am currently on a personal, paid plan with wordpress.com, using the Coraline theme. That theme is no long supported, and I realize that I should switch from classic editor to the block editor as well. My question is, what do I do first: change the theme and then the block editor, or vice versa? Are there any videos which could show me how to do each one separately (or both at the same time)? Many thanks for your help.

Switching to the block editor first is usually easier, then change the theme afterward so you can see how your content looks with blocks. Both can be done independently, and WordPress has tutorials for each just search “WordPress switch to block editor” and “change WordPress theme” on YouTube and you’ll find step-by-step videos.

    Hi @leonawrites!

That’s a great question. The theme and the editor are connected, so you don’t need to think of them as two completely separate steps. Classic themes like Coraline were designed to work with the Classic Editor, while modern block themes are designed to work with the Block Editor.

So, once you switch to a block theme, you’ll automatically be using the Block Editor as well. You won’t have to switch them separately.

Here’s a helpful guide that shows you how to move from a classic theme to a block theme:

Also, I just wanted to mention that since you’re on a paid plan, you have the option to contact us directly from your dashboard. Feel free to follow this guide for more details:
