Switching to Twenty Eleven and Header Images

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m currently using the Twenty Ten theme and I’d like to switch to Twenty Eleven. (I do use a small amount of custom CSS, but I think my question is related to the themes not the CSS.) Each of my posts and pages has its own custom header image. When I look at the Live Preview using Twenty Eleven, my header images are replaced by the defaults for Twenty Eleven.

If I switch from Twenty Ten to Twenty Eleven, will my header images appear in the new theme? Or, will I have to manually reassign header images to each post and page?

    Thanks, Jean

Twenty eleven supports featured images in the header area on static pages and single post pages just like 2010. The preview is not completely accurate.

If you did the header images in the CSS, then you will have to redo that for 2011 in all likelihood – in fact most of your existing CSS will not likely apply to 2011, or if it does, it will likely break things since 2010 is a fixed width theme, and 2011 is a responsive width design.

Thanks for the help. I plan to make the switch as soon as I have a bit of time to clean up the CSS changes.

I started working with a test blog to see what I’ll need to change to go to Twenty Eleven. All my featured images (from the site using the Twenty Ten theme) are 940 px wide. When I try to use one of these as a featured image in my Twenty Eleven test blog, the 940px image doesn’t appear. However, if I resize it to 1000px wide, then it works.

So, a couple questions. (1) must the featured image in Twenty Eleven be at least 1000px? (2) If so, is there any easy way to convert all the images from my current blog? I’m guessing I’ll have to go into the Media Library and edit/scale each featured image, but if there’s a better way, I’d love to hear it.

    Thanks.

    (1) Yes, they have to be 1000px wide (or larger).
    (2) No.
