Switching to Word Press.org and keeping domain name
-
How can I take my current domain to the self hosted Word Press.org? I was told I need Automattic to unlock it and give me an authorization code but I do not know how to contact them for that info. I want to transfer theneighborhoodspeaks.com to a self hosted site.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Do you already have server space for your domain or only the domain? If you only have the domain, you will need to find a host. Once you have a host, you download and install WordPress.org to your host. I would suggest doing a search on switching from WordPress.com to WordPress.org. There is a ton of really good information including hosting sites, etc.

Can you recommend a host for my blog if I were to switch from the current .com to .org format?
Alternatively, if I decide to maintain the .com and not use the Amazon Affiliate widget is there a means by which I can still provide my readership/listener base with access to my guest’s books as a courtesy without compensation using a widget that is similar to the carousel?
Thank you.

I’m using A Small Orange, the “Tiny” package, and have been quite pleased with them and their service. There are others that you can check out over at http://wordpress.ORG/hosting/ .
Any guest book thing would have to be hosted elsewhere and then linked to via HTML in a text widget. Most widget code out there is designed for self-hosted blogs and contains javascript or flash, and those are not allowed here.

Thank you for the list I appreciate it.
Are there any complications associated with switching from the WordPress hosted .com to the self-hosted .or relative to themes and associated widgets?
Right now I am using the Vigilance theme by Drew Strojny.

There is a version of Vigilance for self-hosted wordpress blogs. Search over at http://wordpress.ORG/extend/themes/ for “vigilance” and you will be able to download and install it.
This support document explains the process of moving things over. You will also have to create a .htaccess and wp-config.php file and set up the MySQL database, upload and install the wordpress software and any plugins or themes you might want to use.
