Switching to WordPress!
-
Hello there! I am currently a GoDaddy user :( I have two domains registered with them and two website builders. One site is just solely for ad revenue and the other one is a small online store. I have been super frustrated with them and want to switch. That being said I don’t know which plans to get. I saw that your online store plan was $25 a month which is already more than I spend, so I’m not sure on that one! Also, what does it mean to remove the WordPress branding? Do I also not get seo with the lower plans? Anyway, if I switch will all my content be saved over, or will I have to start fresh? Thanks so much!
I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

Lots of good questions! I’ll break them down for you here.
To start, you can read an overview of the different WordPress.com plans here: https://wordpress.com/support/plan-features/
One site is just solely for ad revenue and the other one is a small online store.
The Premium plan allows you to monetize your site with ads, so that sounds like a good minimum plan option for your ad revenue site.
For your small online store, the eCommerce plan would be the best choice plan.
what does it mean to remove the WordPress branding?
For free WordPress.com websites, WordPress.com displays some sort of branding on your site, such as a WordPress logo or “Proudly powered by WordPress” banner. You can see an example of this on one of my sites:
https://averagetravelpics.wordpress.com/
If you look at the bottom left of my site, you’ll see a small W WordPress logo.
This is one option for displaying WordPress branding on your site. If you are hosting a website using the WordPress.com free plan, you would be able to choose how this branding shows up on your site by going to Customize -> Site Identity -> Footer Credit. By switching to a paid plan, you would be able to remove this branding entirely, so any visitor to your site would likely not know it is built with WordPress.
Do I also not get seo with the lower plans?
The SEO Tools feature is only available on sites with the WordPress.com Business or eCommerce plan.
if I switch will all my content be saved over, or will I have to start fresh?
You will be able to import your current website and move your domain hosting over to WordPress.com without losing your website content.
You can first transfer your content to your WordPress.com by following this guide:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com
And since you already have a domain with GoDaddy, you can follow this guide to map your existing domain to your WordPress.com blog:

I hope this all helps! Happy to answer any other questions you might have.

Staff here! Thank you for answering here, @jamkmak!
I do want to clarify: all paid plans can accept payments of one kind or another, so depending on the size and setup of your eCommerce store, you may not need that plan. If you’d like to share more details we can make recommendations.
Cheers!
