Switching website builder from Dreamweaver to WordPress and maintaining domain name

I need to rebuild my website with WordPress but already own a domain and have 2 years paid with a host. Can I use wordpress?

  • Hi there,

Yes it is possible to use a custom address (even one registered with a different company) by first upgrading to one of the plans you see listed here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

To explain, all our plans include the ability for you to set a custom site address (instead of the “wordpress.com” address we assign) and you have two options once you upgrade:

    1. Leave your domain with the current company (since you paid for two years there) and “map” the domain to your WordPress.com site so you can use the URL as your site address
    2. Instead you can transfer your domain to us. One domain transfer is included free with all upgrades, and includes a free year of registration (once the transfer is complete) and going forward all your renewals will happen here at WordPress.com

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
