SyntaxHighlighter issue – HTML character codes added on post edit

I recently started posting blog entires that contain code snippets. I found that initially when I am authoring the blog post I do not have any issue pasting my souce code snippets into a [code] block in the editor. Everything seems to work as expected.

However, when I go back into the post to edit it at a later point, the editor is inserting all sorts of HTML character codes such as & and &qt;. I am also finding that some whitespace characters, double-quotes and line-breaks are being stripped out of the snippet.

I have tried editing posts in the new simplified editor or the older WP Admin editor but the issue occurs in both scenarios.

The only workaround I have right now is to fix my code snippets manually each time I have to edit a blog entry after initially posting it... as you can imagine this is painful!

    I'm using WordPress.com in Chrome 47.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
