table backround tag not supported

I wonder why it is not allowed to use table background html tag in posts?

it is supported. i’ve used html tables before in my post, albeit the simplest kind. if you’re using the rich text editor, i suggest that you turn it off (go to your profile, and untick the option that turns on the rich text editor) because it makes inserting or tinkering with html easier.

another alternative would be to paste your table in microsoft paint, saving it as a jpeg and uploading it as a picture. that way you can definitely put the table and in any style you wish.

Well, on my blog the table background tag is not working, no matter what I try. If I write background=”image_url” inside the table tag, it is removed immediately when I save the post. See my test at http://serola.wordpress.com/2007/04/30/table-background-test/

A quick check shows that it’s stripped in regular WordPress Multiuser. (That script shows what tags are allowed in case you’re wondering) Best bet would be submit a feedback from your Dashboard and suggest adding support for the tag.

Thank you DrMike, I sent the suggestion via feedback. And here’s why I asked it:

I have an idea to use trasparent PNG/GIF-images as frames for photos emailed from cell phone by using Flickr’s email to blog service. On cell phone you don’t usually have a possibility to edit images but on Flickr you can add some additional layouts into posts sent through it. In my case I really like to have a possibility to put the emailed image into background of the table, and call a overlapping images in front of it. I guess that you can do the same if you pay for CSS, but if you want to do it for free, then the only choice is to use HTML-tags.

Btw, Sulz, a good idea to change the tables into images :) But as you can read above, I still need to have the possibility to use background images in tables.
