Table in block editor

  Hello,
  I am new to WordPress.
  I am using the Gutenberg editor to insert a table block into a post. This works fine, and I can see the table structure, and I can add rows and columns, add colour etc. and write a caption.
  However, I can’t find a way of adding text or data to the table cells. The table seems to be in ‘read only’ mode and nothing I try gets me inside the cells to enter text; and I can’t find any instructions about editing a table (only how to create the table and format it).
  Any assistance greatly appreciated
